Did your heart just drop like mine did?
It was the end of a long day, and just as I was closing my laptop, those words popped up in the corner of the screen. I could ignore it and start tomorrow off with a cloud overhead, or I could suck it up, give a few extra minutes to “the man,” and then go about my evening.
As I pulled up the video conference and saw my boss hadn’t turned on his camera, I knew this meeting wasn’t going to be good. I knew I wasn’t going to log back in ever again. And despite my foresight, the words piled on my chest like bricks trying to suffocate me.
In the middle of the pandemic, I was jobless for the first time since I was 13 years old.
I wanted to crawl into a box and let life finish me off. But I couldn’t, so I turned to the little, inconsistent side hustle I had been nursing for several years.
It had never been profitable. Clients weren’t consistent. And I had run out of time to “figure it out.”
So, I pulled on my big girl pants and got my shit together.
I stopped squirreling around and chasing every template and silver bullet.
